Physical Education (BS)

Help students move toward health and wholeness.

The BS in Physical Education degree at SWU offers everything you need to teach K-12 students. Our teaching and coaching concentrations help you find the path that calls to you. You’ll learn the science, theory, and practical strategies behind running an engaging and effective physical education program.

Our faith-filled program will help you integrate a Christian ethic of care into your instructional practices and provide the foundation to plan, implement, and evaluate learning experiences that meet students’ needs.

Concentrations

The Teaching concentration is perfect if you’re passionate about teaching children in elementary through high school. You’ll learn planning and assessment strategies, classroom ethics, major and minor sports, dance, and gymnastics. SWU’s Teaching concentration is accredited by the National Association of Sports and Physical Education and the South Carolina Department of Education.

The Coaching concentration offers an in-depth look at adolescent psychology, management, and leadership. You’ll also complete a coaching internship as part of the concentration. If you’re interested in coaching in a public school, you should also consider a teaching certification in addition to the coaching concentration.
