History & Public Policy (BA)

Understand the past. Change the future.

A BA in History and Public Policy from SWU will prepare you to make your mark on the world. Through the lens of Christian faith, you will focus on studying and interpreting the past, including gathering, recording, synthesizing, and critiquing evidence and theories. You will develop a broad understanding of the human condition and explore current social questions, issues, and problems. Pursuing a degree in History and Public Policy will improve your critical thinking and analytical skills, ability to see issues from multiple perspectives, and capacity for noticing patterns and predicting likely outcomes.

At SWU, History and Public Policy majors go beyond the classroom with international and domestic travel opportunities, research and presentations at professional conferences, internships at historical societies and museums, and memberships in prestigious national organizations. You will graduate with everything you need to pursue a career or post-graduate education in public policy, historic preservation, records administration, and more.

“History is more than a collection of facts; history is people, and people have always been the same. A knowledge of history is ultimately a knowledge of others... and of yourself.”
Benjamin - History Major
“I really enjoy the History major because of the quality of understanding that it affords. Historical research is necessary to the understanding of most human ideas."
