Criminal Justice Studies (BS)

SWU’s BS in Criminal Justice Studies uses a faith-filled curriculum, cutting-edge technology, and research-based techniques to train you to make an impact for Christ. This multifaceted Criminal Justice Studies degree program will introduce you to the function and interrelated nature of law enforcement, the court system, and corrections.

The BS in Criminal Justice Studies program focuses on the fundamental theories, practices, and attitudes required for entering employment in a moral, ethical, and Christ-centered way. You will learn about criminology, criminal law, investigations, forensic science, police and community relations, corrections, firearms, and social problems. You will be able to confidently discuss ethical issues at the local, state, federal, and even international levels. You’ll work with our expert faculty in a hands-on fashion to learn about future career paths and opportunities for graduate study.

Concentrations

In the Applied Criminology concentration, you will receive specialized instruction in forensic psychology, conflict resolution, terrorism, profiling, and criminological theories.

In the Policing concentration, you will receive specialized instruction on firearms, crime scene investigations, juvenile investigations, executing search and arrest warrants, conducting arrests, neutralizing suspects, and intervening in high-risk situations.

Graduates of the Criminal Justice Studies program will be able to:

  • Demonstrate understanding of major facts, issues, and theories related to criminal justice. 
  • Think critically about the relationship between criminal justice and Christianity, and use this understanding to serve others. 
  • Use critical thinking and research skills to interpret and contribute to research in criminal justice.
