Chemistry professor retires after 32 years of teaching

Dr. David Spittal, president of Southern Wesleyan University, recognized Dr. Jim Schmutz for his 32 years of service as professor of chemistry during commencement exercises May 7 at the campus in Central.
In 2007, Schmutz was presented with the Distinguished Service Award for 30 years of service and commitment to the university. During his tenure, Schmutz also founded Southern Wesleyan’s chapter of Alpha Chi and served as the honor society’s first sponsor. Schmutz was also honored during a retirement reception May 12.
