Doug Norwine, right, gets “in the zone” as he leads his ensemble known as the “The Jazz Associates” during the Summer Jazz Program at Southern Wesleyan University in Central, S.C.

Renowned for his improvisational ability and his numerous studio credits, Norwine’s jazz riffs are familiar to anyone tuned into American popular culture during the past 20 years. Students worked with Norwine and other renowned jazz performers from across the nation in a relaxed, non-competitive environment at the university’s Newton Hobson Fine Arts Center.
