Scott and Christine Stegenga of Pickens read the inscription on the medallion before presenting it to their son, Ben Stegenga, a freshman planning to major in biology.
New students at Southern Wesleyan University marked the transition into a new chapter of life Aug. 17, 2007, during a Passing the Mantle ceremony. The theme for the ceremony was “Journeying toward your Destiny,” based on Proverbs 20:24. Dr. Joe Brockinton, vice president for student life, shared an inspirational message before a blessing of students and parents by Rev. Ken Dill, university chaplain. Music from the University Singers set the tone for the ceremony, held in Founders’ Hall, on Southern Wesleyan’s Central campus. This is the fourth year for the Passing the Mantle ceremony at SWU.
