New Southern Wesleyan University students are presented with a medallion symbolizing a new chapter in their spiritual and educational journey during the Passing the Mantle ceremony at Newton Hobson Chapel and Fine Arts Center on the university’s campus in Central. Henderson is a transfer student from Brevard, N.C., majoring in religion and Smith is an admissions associate. Before the Aug. 14 ceremony, students and family members heard advice about making a transition to college life from Rev. Ken Dill, university chaplain, and Joe Brockinton, vice president for student life.
