Dr. Keith Connor was bestowed the honor of Professor Emeritus of Physical Education in May 2014 and retired from full-time teaching that year, as well. Prior to this, Dr. Connor was the most senior faculty member at SWU, having been on faculty for 46 years. Connor has had the honor of starting both an academic major's program (physical education) and an intercollegiate sports program from their infancies. He served as the initial full-time athletic director until 2007. During that time period, Connor also coached five different intercollegiate sports programs (men's soccer and baseball, women's volleyball, basketball, and softball).
While directing athletics and coaching, Connor also served twenty years in the US Army Reserves after spending two years on active duty prior to coming to SWU. He retired in 1988 with the rank of major.
“I was greatly surprised and extremely honored in 1992 when the intercollegiate baseball field was named for me,” Connor said. “To say the very least, it was a humbling experience.”
